Description
Shore House is probably a late 16th-century detached house, with alterations dating to the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The house is largely timber-framed, with some areas rebuilt in dressed limestone and brick. It has a concrete tiled roof and brick stacks. The front of the house has two storeys and three windows. The ground floor features two 19th-century canted bays with margin-pane casements. The left-hand bay is part of a 17th-century two-storey section, with a 4-light recessed hollow-chamfered mullioned casement to the first floor. The right-hand side has two 19th-century casements to the jettied section, and a gabled attic dormer. The right return has a 20th-century recessed porch built of English bond brick on a moulded stone plinth, with a 2-light casement to the right and a 20th-century oriel window to the first floor. A 20th-century oculus is present in the attic. The left return has been rebuilt in English bond brick with a 3-light margin-pane casement to the right, French windows to the left, and 19th- and 20th-century casements to the first floor. A hipped dormer with a 2-light casement is also present. The rear of the house includes an outshut to the left and an 18th-century wing with a 16-pane sash to the right, plus a 20th-century extension to the centre. An outbuilding to the right has a planked door. During a survey in July 1986, parts of the interior were inaccessible, but it was reported to contain open fireplaces with chamfered lintels on brick jambs, chamfered beams, and a former external dressed limestone wall exposed in the kitchen.
