Description
The Clark Monument, located in the cemetery on the east side of The Down, was built around 1870 by local architect and builder William Smith. This structure serves as the main tomb for Thomas Clark, who passed away in 1859. It features an open arcaded cruciform design with Purbeck stone shafts and a weathered stone roof. The gabled arcades are heavily moulded and include foiled details, with foiled blind ovals on the main gables. A central faceted slab of pink granite is present, along with a moulded plinth that has further names inscribed below. The monument is surrounded by a box hedge.
