Description
The Swan Public House is an alehouse that dates back to the 17th century and was later modified in the mid-18th century. It consists of two sections, with the older part located to the north. The building features a mix of colourwashed brick, flint, and clunch, while the later section has a brick facade. Both sections are topped with a thatched roof.
The northern block is designed in an L-shape, with the entrance located in the re-entrant angle. It has a six-panelled door sheltered by a hipped porch. The windows are primarily from the 19th century, except for a notable three-light leaded window above the porch. The roof is hipped. The southern block may have been a remodelling of the earlier section and is two storeys high with three bays. Its facade is made of red and blue bricks, featuring a central six-panelled door in a 19th-century open gabled porch. The windows date from the 18th to early 19th century, with leaded glass on the first floor and a central blind panel. The roof is hipped to the right, with a multiple flued stack on the left gable where it joins the older structure. There is also a 19th-century single-storey extension to the right, constructed with brick and poor-man's slating, which includes two stacks. The building has extensive 20th-century rear extensions.
Inside, the pub features chamfered spine beams with ogee stops and a large stone fireplace.
