Description
The Institute is a house that has been converted into a library, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of stucco with a tiled roof and stands three stories tall, featuring five bays across the front and two bays deep, with a rear extension on the right. The entrance is located on the side and consists of a four-panel door with sidelights, all set within a reeded frame topped with a segmental arch. The building has sash windows framed simply with reeded surrounds and stone sills; the ground floor has nine-pane windows, the first floor has twelve-pane windows, and the second floor has fifteen-pane windows. Prominently, the center of the first floor features a large cantilevered canted bay with tripartite twelve-pane sashes and wide eaves supported by paired modillions. The door beneath this bay has been blocked. Additionally, there is a large bow window at the rear. This building was formerly known as the Green Dragon Public House.
