Description

Ramsbury War Memorial is a limestone structure erected as a tribute to those who died in the World Wars. It comprises a plain Latin cross with a tapering shaft, which rises from a tapered plinth set on a two-stepped base. The front face of the plinth bears an incised and painted black inscription reading: “REMEMBER/ THE MEN OF RAMSBURY/ WHO DIED IN THE/ GREAT WARS/ TRUE LOVE BY LIFE, TRUE LOVE BY DEATH, IS TRIED:/ LIVE THOU FOR ENGLAND, THESE FOR ENGLAND DIED.” Three other faces of the plinth are inscribed with the names of the fallen from the First World War, and the fourth face lists the names of nine individuals who lost their lives in the Second World War, along with the dates 1939-1945.
