Description

Avon House, part of the former Old Manor Hospital, is a villa dating from approximately 1850 to 1860. It is built of painted brick with a moulded cornice and parapet, and a band delineating the two storeys. The villa is five bays wide, with the outer bays recessed. The two bays flanking the centre are bowed, and a central three-storey tower features a porch. Each outer bay has a single window, the bows have two windows each, and the tower has one window on the first floor and two round-headed narrow lights on each face of the third floor. The windows are marginal glazed sashes. A deep moulded cornice tops the building, and it is finished with a crowning pyramid slate roof. The building is described as picturesque.
