Description
Pewsey Hospital, originally built as a workhouse in 1836, later became a district hospital after 1948 and is now a unit for individuals with mental handicaps. The building is constructed of ashlar limestone and has an asbestos slate roof. It is two storeys tall and relatively small in scale. The central block features a gabled section with five window bays, flanked by an additional bay on each side, and wings that each contain six bays. The exterior includes raised quoins and a string course, with sixteen-paned sash windows that were renewed in the 1980s. A dedication panel in the gable displays the date of construction. At the rear, there is a central wing with eight bays, and the end lateral wings also have eight bays, creating a double plan. The interior has been altered and is not of special interest.
