Description

The Batchelor Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 5 meters northeast of the Newman monument and north of the chancel of the Church of St. Bartholomew. This monument dates from the later 18th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. It features an oval plaque on each side of a raised central panel, with fielded panels on either side. The corners are designed with balusters, and it has a moulded base and cornice, which includes a pulvinated frieze that projects forward over the center. The southern side of the monument bears an inscription commemorating R. Batchelor, who died in 1773.
