Description
The New Inn is an inn built in the mid-18th century, with extensions added in 1840 and a rear part dating from around 1800. The early section is constructed from random rubble stone, while the later parts feature limestone ashlar. The roof is covered with Bridgwater tiles and has stone stacks. The building has a gable end facing the road, with a rear wing that is part of a row including Nos 78 and 79.
The inn is two stories high and has a three-window west front. There is a 20th-century gabled porch to the left of the center, a three-light recessed cyma-mullioned casement to the right, and a three-light beaded mullioned casement to the left. On the first floor, there are a three-light and a four-light beaded mullioned casement, along with a 20th-century top-hung casement; the right-hand bay, which is an addition from 1840, has no windows. The right side of the building features a planked door and a small tripartite sash window on the ground floor, with a 12-pane sash window on the first floor, above which is a datestone inscribed with "1840."
The rear three-story wing includes a planked door leading to the ground floor cellar of the inn, with single-light casements on both the first and second floors. Inside, there is a stone open fireplace with a depressed Tudor-arched lintel.
