Description
The drying shed for bark used in tanning dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of ashlar and squared rubble stone, topped with a stone slate hipped eaves roof. The building has a rectangular plan, measuring five by two bays, with square ashlar piers that rise from the rubble stone walls. The east front features a central opening flanked by three-quarter length openings on either side, while the north side also has three-quarter length openings. The south side and rear have only quarter length openings. The piers support wooden brackets that hold up the eaves. Inside, the roof consists of five bays with king-post and angle-strut trusses.
