Description
The Feilding Monument, located in the churchyard east of the chancel of the Church of St Cyriac, is a sarcophagus dating from around 1840. It is made from a single block of Portland stone and is designed in a neo-classical style. The monument features a finely detailed moulded base, a Greek Doric frieze, and a dentil cornice beneath a capstone that is scrolled at each end. The inscription commemorates Rear Admiral Charles Feilding, who lived from 1780 to 1837. Surrounding the monument is a boldly scrolled cast-iron railing, which appears to be a later 19th-century replacement for simpler rails. Admiral Feilding was the step-father of W.H. Fox-Talbot of Lacock Abbey.
