Description
The Tanyard is a former parish workhouse, now divided into three houses, built in 1833. It is constructed of squared rubble stone with flush ashlar dressings and features low-pitched slate roofs, coped gables, and end stacks. The building is three storeys high and has a T-plan layout.
The façade includes two-light leaded chamfered mullion windows, arranged in a three-window range on each side of a two-window projecting central section. The left wing has a ground floor door with a broken hood supported by brackets to the right. The right wing features a similar door with a stone slate hood on brackets in a mirrored position to the left, along with an inserted door in the first floor centre window, which is accessed by outside wooden steps.
In the central section, there is an end lean-to with a two-window range above, although both left windows are blank. The left side wall has two-light windows on the upper floors, while the ground floor has a 16-pane sash window and a door with a stone slate hood on brackets. The right side wall mirrors this, but with the left window on each upper floor being blank, and the ground floor features a 12-pane sash window, a similar door, and a 16-pane sash window.
