Description

Orchard Cottage is a detached cottage dating from around 1700. It is constructed of rubble stone and features a thatched roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. The cottage is two stories high and has three windows with casements. A central ledged door, set in a chamfered stone case, leads up steps to the entrance. On either side of the door are three-light ovolo-mullioned casements with hoodmoulds, and there is a cellar window to the right of the door. A moulded string course runs along the first floor, raised over the door lintel, with three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements on either side of a central two-light mullioned casement.

To the right of the main building is an early 18th-century single-storey extension that has a two-light mullioned casement and a hipped thatched roof, along with a single chamfered light on the right return. The right return of the main building features a single light ovolo-moulded casement in the attic. The rear of the cottage has both single-light and two-light mullioned casements. The interior was not accessible during the survey conducted in September 1985.
