Description

The Old Rectory is a private detached house that was originally built in the late 17th century, with a front range added in the late 18th century. It is constructed from dressed limestone and features a double Roman tiled half-hipped roof with gable end brick stacks. The building has a T-plan layout, with the older 17th-century range located at the rear.

The south front is two storeys high and has three windows, all of which are fitted with sash windows. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door flanked by Ionic pilasters and a flat wooden hood, with a 16-pane sash window on either side. The first floor has three 12-pane sash windows.

On the left side of the building, there is a 19th-century two-light casement window on the ground floor, while the right side features a 19th-century canted bay with a 12-pane fixed window and a 16-pane sash window on the first floor. The rear wing to the east has been altered in the 20th century, now including a half-glazed door and a 20th-century mullioned casement on the ground floor, as well as 3-light casements on the first floor. The rear gable has a 3-light ovolo-mullioned casement with a dripstone and an additional 3-light casement on the first floor.

The parallel rear wing on the west side has both 2-light and 3-light casements, and there is a 20th-century flat-roofed extension attached. The interior was not accessible during the survey in November 1985, but it is reported to have stairs with two turned balusters per tread and a moulded, wreathed handrail. The left room features a fireplace with a reeded surround and rosettes, while the room on the right has a fireplace with Adam-style ornament.
