Description

This is a late 17th-century house, originally constructed as two dwellings and later combined into a single property. It is located on Foundry Road in Malmesbury. The building is constructed from limestone rubble with brick infilling, and features gable stacks and a roof covered in stone slates. The property is single-depth, with a two-room plan, and stands single-storey with an attic. The three-window facade is set at a right angle to the road. A re-set central doorway, with a boarded door and a six-pane window to the left (formerly an entrance), is sheltered by a wide hipped stone slate canopy. Horned six-pane sash windows are located at each end of the front. The three dormers in the roof have two-light casement windows, with a wider central dormer featuring a pair of windows. The left-hand gable end reveals an exposed roof truss with mortices for purlins. Brick nogging is visible on the gable. A full-width outshut, dating back to the 19th century, extends across the rear of the building. The interior has been altered, but retains thick, battered walls, three roof trusses with tie beams and collars (the ridge is not visible), and a 20th-century rear staircase.
