Description
This is a 17th-century house in Malmesbury, later divided into two dwellings and now combined into one. It was altered in the mid-19th century. The house is constructed from limestone rubble, with brick gable stacks and a stone slate roof. It originally comprised three rooms, with a later 19th-century rear outshut added. The building is single-storey with an attic, and has a three-window front. A shallow central recess contains a boarded door and an inserted six-pane window in a former doorway, sheltered by a wide, hipped stone slate canopy. There are three-pane, horned sash windows with timber lintels, and three gabled casement dormers. The left-hand gable features a queen post truss with two purlin mortices and brick nogging. A full-width rear lean-to has been added to the rear. Inside, features include thick, battered walls and three large trusses with chamfered tie beams. The end gables imply there may have been additional bays at one time, although the sloping ground suggests this is unlikely.
