Description
Holly Tree Cottage and The Cottage are a row of three estate cottages built around 1850, likely designed by J. Thomson for J. Neeld of Grittleton. The cottages are constructed from square rubble stone and feature a stone slate eaves roof with two ridge stacks, one of which retains its original three shafts. The buildings are two storeys high and have a three-window range, showcasing a picturesque cottage style. The centre cottage has a projecting gable and half-hipped eaves dormer gables on either side.
The cottages include stone mullion windows and a drip course. On the first floor, there are three two-light windows, with the centre window featuring a hoodmould. The ground floor has a central triangular bay with a stone slate roof and two-light windows. Each side has square bays with three-light windows and hipped roofs. Additionally, there is a lean-to stone slate porch at the left of the centre and lean-to porches with half-hipped roofs on each end wall. The rear of the cottages has three gabled wings.
