Description
Green Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one, built around 1850, likely by J. Thomson for J. Neeld of Grittleton. The building is constructed of squared rubble stone and features stone slate roofs, with a four-shaft stack on the main ridge. It is two storeys high and has a T-plan layout with a wing extending to the south.
The main range includes a two-storey ashlar triangular bay at the east end, which has two-light windows and a dripcourse. This bay overlooks the former drive leading to Grittleton House. The south end of the wing features a three-light window with a hoodmould and a blank circular panel in the gable. There is a tall outside stack on the west side.
At the eastern end of the main range, there is a gabled projecting porch with a shouldered head. To the left of the porch, there is a 20th-century addition. The west end wall of the main range has a dripcourse, with a two-light window on the first floor and a three-light window below, both adorned with hoodmoulds, as well as a projecting enclosed porch. The rear of the building has one window range to the left of centre, with a three-light window below and a two-light window in the eaves dormer gable above.
