Description
There are two chest tombs located in the churchyard north of the tower of the Church of St Giles, dating from the mid to late 18th century and made of ashlar. The first tomb, which is unidentified, features a fielded rectangular plaque on the south side, floral drops at the corners, fielded end plaques, and a raised centre plaque on the north side with fielded panels on either side. It has a moulded base and capstone, although the north side is damaged. The second tomb is the monument of Humphrey Beak, characterized by heavy scrolled lyre ends, with a large shell design on the east end and a cartouche with a winged head on the west. It also has a fine scroll-bordered plaque on the north side, a moulded base, cornice, and a pulvinated frieze. The inscription commemorates Humphrey Beak, who died in 1764.
