Description
Nos 53 and 55 on King Street are a pair of cottages dating from the late 18th century. They are built of painted ashlar and feature a double Roman tiled mansard roof with stone stacks. The cottages are two stories high with an attic and have four windows in total.
No 53 has a staff-moulded door case with a flat stone hood supported by brackets, while No 55 features a semi-circular entry to the right and a plain door case. No 53 also includes a 19th-century square bay window, whereas No 55 has a 20th-century casement window in paired cases. There is a plat band at the first floor level, and the windows consist of two paired sashes and two single sashes. The roof is adorned with two hipped dormers that have sash windows. The rear of the cottages is constructed of rubblestone, and No 53 has a rear wing with 2-light beaded mullioned windows.
