Description
Two chest tombs from the 18th century are located in the churchyard northeast of the porch of the Church of the Holy Cross. The first tomb, an unidentified early 18th-century monument, features two fielded plaques on each side, foliate scroll decoration at the center and on the angle piers, along with a moulded base and capstone. The second tomb is dedicated to John Heritage and dates from the later 18th century. It has a projecting center on the north side with a raised framed oval plaque, fielded panels on each side, and chamfered angles adorned with floral drops. The south side includes a rectangular framed plaque with fielded panels on each side, inscribed with details about John Heritage Sr, who died in 1779, and Jonathan Heritage, who died around 1766.
