Description
The barn at Finches Farm, located 80 meters southeast of the farmhouse, is a 17th-century corn barn. It features low walls made of flint and stone, with a timber frame that has had corrugated iron installed to replace the original thatch around 1950. The barn consists of six bays, with aisles on both sides and a hipped midstrey. It has jowelled posts with braces supporting slightly cambered ties. The structure includes raking strut and collar trusses that hold two tiers of purlins, complete with windbraces. The roof is hipped over the last bay at both ends. The farm is historically noted to have been purchased for the nephew of Sir Isaac Newton, and the contents of the farmhouse are detailed in a probate inventory from 1669.
