Description
The barn and associated farm buildings at Rixon Farm date from the 17th or 18th century. They are constructed from limestone rubble with ashlar quoins. The main barn features a stone slate roof and consists of four bays, with a midstrey on the south side and a half hipped roof. The north side has three tiers of ventilation ports and doors located in the second bay.
To the west of the barn is a two-storey, two-bay stable building made of rubble with a concrete tile roof and an external stair at the front. Adjacent to the stables is a cowhouse with six bays, built of stone and featuring a stone tile roof supported by circular rubble columns at the open front. The cowhouse has trusses with cambered collars, blade principals, and two in-line purlins.
At the east end of the barn, there is a six-bay structure made of stone, which was raised in the 19th century with brick to create an attic space. This structure has four depressed arches with stone keys, three of which are blocked and contain windows, along with a similar blocked arch at the gable end.
