Description

Martins is a detached house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of painted Flemish bond brick, with a Welsh slate hipped roof and rendered stacks. The two-storey, three-window front features a central door with six beaded panels in a moulded case. Flanking the door are two sixteen-pane sash windows. A wrought iron verandah with decorated posts and cresting, topped with a corrugated iron roof, runs along the entire ground floor. The first floor has three sixteen-pane sashes, each with external shutters. Deep eaves are a notable feature. A single-storey 20th-century extension with French windows is located to the right. The right return is faced with bands of flint and brick and has no windows. The left return also presents flint and brick banding and is windowless, with an attached 20th-century garage extension. The rear elevation features flint and brick banding, with a single two-light casement window on the ground floor and two two-light cast-iron casement windows on the first floor. The interior retains original fittings, including a fireplace with moulded pilasters and paterae, six-panelled doors, and a newel staircase.
