Description
Lower Moor Farmhouse probably has a core dating to the early 17th century, with 18th and 19th century additions and alterations. The farmhouse is constructed of rubble with some render and flush rusticated dressed stone quoins to the original section, and squared and coursed dressed stone to a 19th-century addition. It has stone slate roofs and end and ridge stone stacks.
The building has an irregular L-shaped plan, comprising a 17th-century west range and a later long range set at right angles facing east. The original block is two storeys high, while the later range is single storey with an attic. Windows throughout are two- and three-light casements. A two-light chamfered mullion with a hoodmould, lighting the staircase, is located on the west wall of the 17th-century block. A doorway in the angle between the ranges has a flat hood supported by a single concrete bracket, and leads to a plank door.
Inside, there is an early 17th-century dog-legged staircase with square newels and rustic flat-section balusters. Stone flags are laid in the lobby and several rooms, and chamfered beams are present.
