Description

The Old School House is a schoolhouse, later converted into a private detached house, dating to circa 1846. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a fishscale tiled roof featuring coped verges, and a brick stack to the rear. The building has a gable end facing the road. It is two storeys high and has a three-window front. A gabled porch is located on the right side, containing a planked side door. To the left of the porch are two three-light cast-iron latticed casement windows. The first floor has three two-light cast-iron latticed casement windows. A single-storey wing extends to the right, with a single and a two-light cast-iron casement windows, matching the roof style. The gable end of this wing has a blocked doorway. The rear elevation is windowless. The school at Newtown was opened in 1846. The interior was inaccessible at the time of survey in February 1986.
