Description
No. 3 Linden Close is a house built in the mid-18th century and refronted around 1830 to 1850. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof with brick end stacks. The building has two storeys and a three-window front. The front door is panelled and has timber lintels, while the windows are 6/6-pane sashes.
Inside, the house retains several original features from the mid-18th century, including chamfered beams, timber-framed partitions, a dog-leg stair with turned balusters, and a collar truss roof with staggered purlins. The 19th-century remodelling introduced details such as a first-floor left fireplace with a cast-iron hob in a stone surround, along with panelled doors and shutters framed in moulded wood architraves. This house is a good example of a 19th-century refronting that has preserved the layout and significant internal features of a small 18th-century house. It is attached to No. 1 Linden Close, Silver Street, at the rear.
