Description
This is a row of six cottages, dated 1734, and altered subsequently. The cottages are two storeys high. They are built of coursed and squared rubble, with ashlar quoins to the right of numbers 66 and 68, and framing number 72. Some 19th-century ashlar lintels are present. The roof is likely from the mid-19th century, made of tiles, with three brick ridge chimneys. Numbers 66 and 72 retain two-light chamfered stone mullion casement windows. Two ranges of windows are present, with two-light casements throughout, except for the ground floor of numbers 66 and 70 on the left, and number 68 on the right. Brick dressings are found on numbers 68 and 70. Number 74 has a rendered facade. The doors are from the mid-19th century; numbers 68, 70, and 72 are half glazed, number 74 has a beaded surround with a four-centred arch head, and number 72 has a beaded surround. Shallow, gabled, bracketted hoods shelter the doorways. A datestone is located between numbers 68 and 70, bearing the incised lettering "I B R E S E 17 34". The interiors of numbers 70, 72, and 74 include large inglenook-type fireplaces on the ground floor.
