Description
This is an early 18th-century house, later used as a shop. The ground floor was remodelled in the late 19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a hipped roof covered in double-Roman tiles. The building has a double-depth plan, augmented by later extensions at the rear.
The exterior presents a symmetrical facade with four windows per floor. The upper floors have 6/6-pane sash windows, some with crown glass, and moulded architraves, which are shorter on the second floor and taller on the first floor. The first-floor windows have late 19th-century balconettes. A cornice and blocking course run along the top of the facade, and rusticated quoins and a moulded string course are located above the first-floor windows. The ground floor has been altered with chamfered rustication, culminating in a heavy console keystone above a simple cornice over a full-width semi-elliptical arch.
The interior is not accessible. The facade of the house represents a fine example of 18th-century town house architecture.
