Description
Laburnum Cottage is a house dating from the early to mid-17th century, positioned gable end to the lane. It features a timber frame with brick noggings that have replaced the original wattle and daub. There are extensions at the rear and to the left made of cob, and the roofs are thatched. The building is two storeys high with a 2½ bay lobby entry plan, a rear wing for the parlour on the left, a narrow lean-to across the rest of the rear, and an outbuilding at the left gable. The framing consists of four panels high with wavy corner braces, and there is a shelter board over the upper horizontal bressumer. The front has a 20th-century oak door beneath an open thatched canopy, along with 19th-century casement windows. The roof is half hipped and features a central brick stack. Inside, there are back-to-back fireplaces, with the kitchen fireplace including an oven. The parlour fireplace has a moulded Tudor arch, a mantelshelf, and a stone-panelled overmantel with raised panels on strapwork. This fireplace now contains a refixed 19th-century iron range, and the staircase is located at the rear of the stack.
