Description

The Lane is a 17th-century cottage located in Rushall, Swanland. It is constructed from brick and clunch, with some timber framing, and features a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic and consists of two bays, following a lobby entry plan. There is a boarded door situated in a light timber porch, and timber casement windows are present throughout. The bay to the left of the entrance is wider and has a facing and gable made of mixed flint, clunch, and sarsen pebbles. The timber framing is exposed only on the east gable, which has three panels high with corner braces, while the ground floor timber has been replaced with header bond. A 20th-century extension is located at the right rear of the cottage. The stack is off-centre, and the roof is half hipped.
