Description
The stables and dovecote at Blackland Park, dating from the mid-18th century, are constructed from rubble stone and feature stone slate roofs. The building has a cross-gabled design at the center for the dovecote and half-hipped roofs on the flanking wings. It is two storeys high. The central section, which may be slightly older than the wings, includes a dovecote situated above paired elliptical-arched coach entries that have raised imposts. The dovecote features flush quoins and a door with a bead-moulded surround and dripstone. There is a single light in the gable, also bead-moulded with a dripstone, and a cross-gabled stone-slated lantern. A similar single light is present on the rear gable.
The wings match the central section and have a moulded plinth and flush quoins at the outer angles. Each wing has two 2-light cyma-moulded flush mullion windows on each floor. On the upper floors, these windows flank a similarly moulded loading door, while on the ground floors, there are bead-moulded doorways, with the left door flush and the right door in a raised surround. The rear of the wings features similar 2-light windows on the ground floor and first floor on the right side. Both the wings and the dovecote are supported by king-post trusses with angle struts, and the dovecote is lined with ashlar nesting boxes.
