Description

The Farmers' Hotel is a mid-19th century building located at the corner of Silver Street and Sambourne Road in Warminster. The main block is three storeys high with angled corners, constructed of painted brick featuring ashlar cill bands on the first and second floors and ashlar lintels. It has a hipped slate roof with a gable end chimney on the right side. The building includes one range of windows at each angle and an additional range on the north angle, with a blocked window on the first floor of the chamfered corner that has painted signs. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with single hung sashes on the first floor. The ground floor has two modern segmental windows that are wide with many panes, and a small doorway to the right.

The entrance on the chamfered corner is notable for its ashlar surround and features excellent lettering on the lintels that reads "Alfred Cockerell, Licenced dealer. Tea, Coffee, Pepper, Tobacco, Snuff, 1860." The keystone above the entrance displays the name of the current proprietor and the date 1970. To the right, there is a two-storey 18th-century wing, also made of painted brick, with a band above the ground floor; the right-hand part is painted. This wing has two windows on the second floor and one on the first floor, all of which are glazing bar sashes except for the left-hand first-floor window. It features moulded wooden architraves and a tiled roof with a brick ridge chimney. There are various extensions along Sambourne Road, which include tiled roofs and a large segmental-headed coach arch that is now glazed, leading to a wide yard entry on the left.
