Description

Nos 1 and 3 Russell Street, including No 2 North Street, date from the late 18th century. They are built of red and blue brick in English bond, with a modern concrete tile roof.

No 1 is double-fronted. The first floor has late-glazed sash windows with flush moulded frames, and a central panel. On the ground floor, to the right is a sash window with a 5x4 pane glazing bar and a segmental gault brick head. To the left is an early 19th century shop window with reeded pilasters, fascia brackets, a dentil cornice, and a bowed glazing bar window. The central door is a 6-panel door with cut brackets to a flat hood. The return to North Street (No 2) features a shop window similar to that at No 1, but without the bow or reeded pilasters. A half-glazed door is to the left, and there is a canted oriel window on the first floor. A single-window extension is set to the left, with marginal glazing on the ground floor.

No 3 is slightly later, also double-fronted, with smaller windows. The first floor has 2-light casements, while the ground floor has cross-glazed sashes. A central 4-panel (flush-type) door completes the facade.
