Description

Knapp Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse that has been altered in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The farmhouse is constructed of rubble stone and English garden wall bond brick, with a refronting in yellow Flemish bond brick, and has a thatched roof. It is arranged in an L-shape. The south front is two storeys high with three windows. A 20th-century glazed porch and door is centrally located, flanked by a 19th-century canted bay window with flat brick arches and plate glass sashes. The first floor has three 16-pane sashes with keystones to flat arches. The right return has an external stone stack with offsets and a 20th-century attached extension. The left return has a 2-light and a single-light casement, with an earlier roofline visible in the brickwork. To the left is a flint rubble stone outhouse, now connected to the main house by a 19th-century addition. A 20th-century flat-roofed extension and a 19th-century lean-to are located to the rear of the main range, along with two gabled attic dormers containing a 4-light and a 3-light casement. The rear wing retains some timber framing to its right return, with 20th-century steel casements. The interior features chamfered beams with run-out stops, planked and 4-panelled doors, and a cellar.
