Description

The Lodge is a detached house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of rubble stone and features a tiled roof with stone slate eaves, gable end coped verges, and stone stacks with moulded cappings. The house is designed in a three-cell layout and is two storeys high with four windows. The central entrance consists of a 20th-century door beneath a flat stone hood supported by brackets, flanked by recessed chamfered side lights with hoodmoulds. To the left of the door is a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement with a hoodmould, and to the right is a three-light ovolo-mullioned casement. On the first floor, there are two three-light and two two-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements.

The right side of the house features three-light ovolo-mullioned casements with hoodmoulds on both the ground and first floors, along with a benchmark incised on the right quoin. The left side has a single recessed chamfered light in the attic. At the rear, there are 20th-century planked doors and two-light and three-light casements, as well as four 20th-century gabled dormers.

Inside, the former kitchen at the west end contains an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel set on stone jambs. The first floor features a chamfered ceiling beam with run-out stops and a stone Tudor-arched fireplace at the west end. The roof structure is a four-bay design with two tiers of butt purlins and some straight wind bracing. The house underwent extensive restoration during the 1970s.
