Description

Milford House and Flats A, B, and C is a detached house that has been divided into four dwellings. It was built in the mid-18th century, with 19th and 20th-century rear wings added later. The exterior features painted Flemish bond brick with ashlar quoins and a Welsh slate roof with brick stacks. The building has an L-shape with rear wings and is two stories tall, presenting a five-window front.

On the ground floor, there is a half-glazed door to the left set in an open-pedimented porch supported by wooden Tuscan columns. To the right of the door are three 12-pane sash windows, and to the left is one 12-pane sash window. The first floor has five 12-pane sash windows, all of which have flat arches and moulded wooden architraves.

To the left is a contemporary wing with a hipped slate roof, which is also two stories tall and has two windows. The ground floor of this wing features two plate-glass sash windows, while the first floor has two 9-pane sash windows, all with flat arches and moulded wooden architraves. To the right is a single-storey extension with a hipped roof and two 12-pane sash windows. The left return of the building has one plate-glass sash window on the ground floor and a 12-pane sash window on the first floor.

At the rear, there are three two-storey gabled wings. The ground floor of the right wing features a 19th-century canted bay window and two 12-pane sash windows on the first floor. The left wing is from the early 20th century, while the central wing has 4-pane sash windows and some 20th-century windows.

Inside, the entrance hall has an acanthus-moulded ceiling cornice and a fireplace with a reeded surround and paterae. The staircase dates from around 1830, and there is a late 18th-century fireplace on the first floor.
