ATWORTH COMBE LANE (west side) Hale House (formerly listed as No 205 Cottles Park)

Cottage, now boarding house at Stonar school. Late C17. Rubble stone, stone slate roof, stone stacks with moulded cappings. Two- storey and attic, 4-window south front. C20 planked door and half- glazed door to left hand projecting gable, C19 two-light mullioned casement with hoodmould and two C17 mullioned casements in blocked doorways to right. First floor has 3-light hollow-chamfered mullioned casement with hoodmould to left gable, one 2-light and two 2-light hollow-chamfered mullioned casements to right; evidence of some refenestration, probably C19. Rear lean-to extension with 9-pane fixed window, C20 lean-to additions either side, first floor has two 3-light recessed hollow-chamfered mullioned casements with relieving arches over continuous string course, two full gabled dormers with 2-light mullioned casements with hoodmoulds, coped verges. Interior has chamfered beams.
