Description

The Old Brewery is a mid-18th century house situated on the Common in Langley Burrell. It is constructed of small ashlar blocks with ashlar dressings, and has a slate roof with stacks at the east end and rear. The building is two storeys and an attic, originally with a three-window front. A moulded rubble stone plinth, an ashlar moulded string course, a coved eaves cornice, and rusticated angle piers are notable features. The first floor contains three sash windows with 18 panes, thick glazing bars, and raised moulded surrounds. The ground floor has early 19th century tripartite sashes flanking a six-panel door recessed within a raised moulded surround featuring panelled piers and a pediment supported by consoles. One corner stone bears the dates 1749 and 1754, scratched into the stone. Internally, there are fielded six-panel doors, a staircase with bracketed treads, turned balusters, and a moulded rail. Until 1931, the building was part of the Langley Brewery complex, which was attached to the east.
