Description

Kingsdown House is an early 19th-century house, built upon an earlier structure. The front is constructed of painted ashlar with a stone-tiled roof, coped gables, and end wall stacks. The building has two storeys at the front and three at the rear, with a four-window front range featuring a moulded cornice and parapet. The upper floor has three 12-pane sash windows, alongside an escape door. The ground floor has two 12-pane sash windows, a centre entrance door, and an open segmental arch to the left. To the left is a section of rubble stonework with a coped gable and end wall stack, containing a single bead-moulded mullion window of 18th-century style. The rear of the main range features a small fragment of dripmoulding at the ground floor right end. A rubble stone building with a mullion window is attached to the left. The building was originally part of the extensions to the private asylum at Kingsdown House, which was established in the 18th century and documented as being in existence for 200 years in 1815.
