SU 02 NW COMPTON CHAMBERLAYNE COMPTON PARK SU 03 SW (east side)

4/ & 1/137 Gates and gatepiers to Compton Park House, with loom of wall to north and 75m to south

GV II

Gates and gate piers to drive to south west of Compton Park House (q.v.), attached garden walls to north also bound churchyard (q.v.) on west side, continuing to south up to a second pair of gatepiers. Walls possibly C16, gatepiers C18. Driveway has dressed limestone square gatepiers with moulded cappings and good cast iron double gates with anthemions and spearheads, pedestrian gateway to right with Tudor-arched chamfered head. Gatepiers to south end of wall are square with ball finials. Wall between 2 and 3 metres high has pitched stone coping, partly replaced with concrete coping on south section, planked doorway in wall to south of main gates leads to churchyard. These walls are an important feature of the group of items around the Church of St Michael and Compton Park House at the north end of the village.
