Description

Stoford Bridge is a road bridge over the River Wylye, located in Great Wishford, with part of it in South Newton Parish. It dates from the early 18th century but was rebuilt in 1841. The bridge is constructed of limestone and features a Flemish bond brick parapet. It has five segmental ashlar arches that rise in height towards the center, with half-round ashlar cutwaters extending up to the brick parapet, which is adorned with half-round shaft pilasters and a plat band topped with weathered moulded stone coping. The bridge also has short curved abutment walls that end in cylindrical ashlar end piers. The keystone on the north side is inscribed with "REBUILT/By PLOWMAN/AND MAY/1841."
