Description
The Elms is a detached house located on the south side of High Street in Tilshead. It dates from the 17th century, with a mid-19th century extension at the rear and a refacing of the front. The front is constructed in Flemish bond brick, while the rear and sides are made of limestone and flint, topped with a tiled roof that is hipped to the right and features brick stacks. The house is designed in an L-shape and has two stories with a six-window front.
The entrance features a six-panelled door from the 19th century set in a porch to the right. Flanking the porch are two-storey canted bays with sash windows. To the left of the entrance, there are three 2-light casements on both the ground and first floors. A straight joint divides the front into two halves. The right side of the house has French windows and a 16-pane sash window on the first floor, while the left side has 2-light casements on both levels.
At the rear, there is a blocked 2-light ovolo-mullioned window with a hoodmould on the left, a four-panelled door, a 4-light ovolo-mullioned window with a hoodmould, and a 2-light casement to the right. The first floor features a small 4-pane sash window. To the right, a mid-19th century parallel rear range includes double half-glazed doors with a segmental head and a 6-pane sash window on the first floor. Inside, the house has chamfered beams with run-out stops.
