Description
77 Winner Street is a shop with accommodation above, dating from the 1830s. The building is rendered with a slate roof that has gabled ends and features stacks with brick and rendered shafts. It has a double-depth plan, one room wide, with a rear outshut that is heated by a rear lateral stack. The front has been remodeled for use as a café. The building stands three storeys tall and has a one-window front. It features a moulded eaves cornice with a projecting fascia. The ground floor includes a 20th-century two-light plate-glass shopfront with a half-glazed door and overlight to the left. There is one early 19th-century twelve-pane sash window on the first floor and one on the ground floor. The interior of the ground floor has been modernized, but features of interest may still exist elsewhere. Historically, Winner Street was the main medieval thoroughfare in Paignton and is named after the bishops' vineyard.
