Description
This building is a threshing barn, cattle yard, and storehouse located approximately 30 meters south of Churston Court Farmhouse. It dates from the mid-19th century and is constructed of stone rubble, with some red sandstone, and features a slated hipped roof. The barn faces northwest and has a cattle yard built behind it, with access through gates to the left of the barn.
The yard includes an engine house against the rear wall of the barn, open-fronted cattle shelters at the back, and a storehouse on the right. The barn itself has two large segmental-headed doors; the right door has an arch made of stone voussoirs and features double plank doors with strap-hinges, with the lower part of the right-hand door opening separately. The left door has a rebuilt arch of red-brick headers, and only the upper part of the right-hand door remains. There is also an owl-hole in the west gable wall and matching rear doors at the right-hand end.
The entrance to the cattle yard is marked by square gate piers, with the left pier topped by a low pyramidal cap. The cattle sheds have oblong section stone piers with intermediate wooden posts. Inside, the barn features nailed king-post-and-ridge trusses, likely from the 20th century.
