Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of three estate cottages located on Churston Road, Churston Ferrers. The construction is of coursed, squared Devonian limestone rubble with a slate roof. The terrace features two rendered chimneys—one on the ridge and another on the left gable-end—each with a flat, slightly projecting cap. The front is symmetrical, with five windows across. False doorways are incorporated in place of the second ground-storey window from each end, these false doors incorporating cross-walls and rear spear-headed railings. Openings have slightly cambered arches constructed from stone voussoirs. Each doorway has a hood mould composed of a horizontal block of stone resting on plain stone corbels, and plank doors. The windows are small-paned wood casements; the ground floor windows have three lights with ten panes per light, while the upper floor windows have two lights with eight panes per light. There are no openings in the side walls. A gate pier, built from squared limestone and red sandstone blocks, adjoins the left side wall, followed by a short section of wall constructed from squared and coursed stone rubble.
