Description

This building is a threshing barn with an attached open-fronted shelter-shed, located about 22 metres south-west of Court Farmhouse. It dates from the mid-19th century and is constructed from coursed rubble with limestone and sandstone dressings, along with brick. The barn features a slate roof with raised coped verges, kneelers, and a stone ridge, while the front has a single-storey extension that is rendered and covered with a corrugated iron roof, and a corrugated iron lean-to at the rear. The shelter-shed has a pantiled roof with raised coped verges, kneelers, and a stone ridge, and a lower addition with a double Roman tiled roof.

The barn is designed in a T-plan format and includes a gabled cart entry with a banded sandstone and limestone segmental head, and a shaped bull's eye above for a pigeon-loft. There are ventilation slits on each side, although the right side is blocked. The north side features a double door and a 2-pane window, both under a timber lintel, as well as a loading door above with a segmental head. The rear has a double door with a segmental head, two ventilation slits, and a 2-light window in a chamfered wooden frame at an upper level. The south side has a small square bull's eye window in the gable.

Inside, the barn has a five-bay roof supported by collar and principal rafter trusses, with ventilation slits in deep splayed reveals. There is a wooden plank and batten shutter for the rear upper window and a door to the pigeon-loft featuring strap hinges. The shelter-shed has five bays with four chamfered wooden piers at the front and a lower single bay extension that includes a half-height brick wall at the front.
