Lamp Post Approximately 5 Metres North West Of Town Hall Porch

This lamp post, located approximately 5 metres north-west of the Town Hall porch in Torquay, is likely from the same period as the town hall, built between 1910 and 1911. Made of metal, probably cast-iron, it is one of a group of five identical lamp posts situated outside the town hall. Originally gas-lit, it has since been converted to electricity. The lamp post features a thick cylindrical base with an egg-and-dart moulding, leading to a baluster-shaped foot adorned with acanthus leaf decoration. The cylindrical standard supports three globes, with the outer globes mounted on a ladder rest using scrolled brackets. This lamp post is an attractive example of historic street furniture and holds group value with the town hall, which includes notable external metalwork.
