Description
Halden Pier is a pier located in Torquay Harbour, built in 1867. The engineer was J.P. Margery, with James Mountstephen as the contractor and Sir Lawrence Palk as the patron. The pier is constructed from local grey limestone rubble, much of which was sourced from the lowering of Beacon Hill. It serves as an outer pier or breakwater, measuring approximately 300 meters in length, providing additional protection for the old harbour and creating a larger outer harbour. The construction cost nearly £70,000 and it is an important feature of the 19th-century harbour at Torquay.
