Description

A pair of terraced houses, dated to the 1830s and designed by Jacob Harvey, located within the Royal Marina Court at Torquay. They were originally listed as part of the Beacon Cove Hotel. The houses were undergoing conversion to flats at the time of their original survey. The exterior is of plastered construction with a slate mansard roof and stacks featuring rendered shafts and platbands. The three-storey, three-window front of each house includes a front door to the left. Platbands run below the second-floor sill and eaves, topped by a deep projecting cornice and a blocking course. Some details are concealed or absent due to the conversion work. The right-hand house has a round-headed doorway, while the left-hand house has a square-headed doorway. Ground floor windows likely contain twelve-pane sashes, first-floor windows feature a six-over-nine-pane design, and the second floor has twelve-pane sashes. The attic windows are twentieth-century small-pane sashes set within the mansard roof. A partial inspection revealed that the interiors have been replanned with new joinery. These houses are part of the same terrace as numbers 2-8 Beacon Terrace. An 1839 drawing of the terrace, prior to alterations, is reproduced by Ellis.
